Asian American International Film Festival '08

The first festival of its kind, the Asian American International Film Festival is the premiere showcase dedicated to screening innovative films by independent artists of Asian descent.

The AAIFF08 opens with PRINCESS OF NEBRASKA, Wayne Wang's moving homage to the post-Tiananmen Square generation of Chinese youth, and closes with Jessica Yu's hilarious narrative feature debut PING PONG PLAYA. Throughout the week experience the Festival by going to film premieres, shorts screenings, music videos parties, and more.

This year, the AAIFF08, with NYU's A/P/A Institute, proudly unveils NEW LANDSCAPES: MEDIA AND ITS ADAPTATIONS, an inaugural interdisciplinary series of panels, conversations, master classes, and events exploring new visions in Asian and Asian American media, culture and politics. Artists, intellectuals, and filmmakers will engage in discussions that forecast the frontier of contemporary culture.

There's still time to sponsor the 2008 National Conference!

National Asian American Student Conference is continuing its search for financial sponsors of the 2008 National Conference! We are still seeking additional individual/private, organizational, and/or corporate sponsors at all levels for our upcoming conference on October 17-19, 2008 at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The informational packet is available on our site to the left titled “Sponsorship Pack ’08.”

NAASCon is an organization created by and for students of Asian descent. This organization aims to serve as a forum for Asian American/Pacific Islander student activists from across the country to compile resources, coordinate campaigns, and build community around shared values of social and economic justice, human rights, and collective decision-making. NAASCon envisions a progressive Asian American student movement that works in solidarity with all oppressed communities to construct a just and equitable society in which human dignity is respected. This conference serves as a national forum, providing a dynamic space where students from every college and university can converge and share ideas, develop relationships, and think critically about the world around us.

Although you may not be located in Atlanta, there are multiple reasons why your involvement as a sponsor can be valuable to you:

By becoming a sponsor of NAASCon, you will:

·         Encourage the leadership and professional development of student leaders; our goal is to attract 500+ students from colleges and universities across the United States.

·         Help students with financial need to attend the conference by funding scholarships and subsidizing travel costs.

·         Acknowledge the need for community building and service.

As an organization/ business, you will also:

·         Obtain various benefits for sponsorship including placement of your company's logo on our website(s), advertising space in the conference program/brochures, and recognition at the opening and closing sessions of the event.

·         Support a national conference that links student communities across the United States; providing promotional exposure on both local (Atlanta) and national levels.

·         Reinforce your company's/organization's objective and reputation as a leader in diversity.

·         Promote your mission, products and services to the conference participants and respective communities that these students represent.

The theme is "From Visions to Actions: Let's Get Our Movements Going," and with your support, NAASCon can reach its potential and empower student leaders and their communities. Attached to this email, you will find the Official 2008 Sponsorship Packet that outlines the organizational and conference details for sponsorship. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to working with you!

NAASCon 2008 is now accepting workshop submissions!

NAASCon, the National Asian American Student Conference, is proud to announce the third national Asian American student conference to be held on October 17-19, 2008 at Emory University.

The third conference seeks to examine the connections established in the 2006 conference and progress forward. The theme of this year's conference is FROM VISIONS TO ACTIONS: LET'S GET OUR MOVEMENTS GOING. It recognizes the existing movements as well as the need to examine our current visions. As activist Grace Lee Boggs once said, "New situations bring new contradictions, requiring new visions."  We want to acknowledge and recognize the progress that Asian Americans have made in different parts of the country, and at the same time, develop new visions and keep our movements going. How have new developments in our society challenge our strategies in facing existing issues such as immigration, economic disparity, gender and sexuality, education, and campus resources? NAASCon 2008 is eager to provide the space for Asian American student activists to come together and envision a new America.

The conference is comprised of seven tracks: Immigration, Race, and Rights; Economic Justice: Housing, Healthcare and Labor; Gender and Sexuality; Educational Equity; Arts Technology, and Media for Social Change; Campus and Community Organizing; and APA Issues 101. Included in each track is a panel session that will feature skills and best practices tactics from experienced organizers and fellow students from across the nation.

During the conference, there will also be regional caucuses for students to network, present various issues of concern, and initiate advocacy campaigns. We hope you will work with us in creating a national dialogue among the various regions by facilitating workshops and/or participating in panel sessions. Your input and concerns are important to us, because without your voice, a national dialogue would not be able to happen. Attached you will find the overview of the conference and the workshop submission form. All forms should be emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than June 15, 2008.

Since 2001, NAASCon has been an active APA student political organization with the mission of educating, fostering dialogue, and mobilizing students through proactive campaigns across the country on issues of importance facing the APA community. NAASCon is an organization created by and for the students. The National Board is comprised of students from various Asian and Pacific Islander ethnicities and represents different regions in the United States. Therefore, a goal of NAASCon is to serve as a forum for APA students, organizations, and regional networks to implement campaigns important to their community.

We hope to hear from you and we look forward to working together in strengthening and sustaining each other's campaigns.

In solidarity,

ustin Reyes, C.C. Song, and Toby Wu
Programming Co-Chairs
